Victorian Landscape Industry Awards

The Victorian Landscape Industry Awards, hosted annually by Landscaping Victoria, celebrate excellence across a broad spectrum of the landscaping industry.

These awards recognise outstanding achievements in landscape design, construction, management, maintenance, horticulture, and supplier services. Honouring individuals and teams, the program highlights projects that set new benchmarks in creativity, craftsmanship, and environmental stewardship, inspiring peers and the next generation of landscaping professionals.

Our Awards programme is built on a foundation of robust, fair, and reliable judging criteria that our members worked tirelessly to develop over many years. What makes our program unique—and something we are immensely proud of—is its commitment to integrity and thorough evaluation.

Unlike other association awards that rely solely on photographs, our judges visit project sites in person. This hands-on approach allows them to fully experience the space, assess how it delivers on the client brief, and ensure it aligns with the provided documentation. This rigorous process reflects the credibility and prestige of the Awards and why they are a true celebration of excellence.

Cost

An entry consists of one project in one category. A project may be entered in several different categories, providing the criteria has been met as required for each award category. Entry fee applies to each individual entry. There is a limit of three entries per entrant, per category.

Early Bird Entry Fee - $155 inc gst per entry - Entries received prior to 31st July 2024

Standard Entry fee - $180 inc gst - Entries received between 1st August - 30th August 2024

2023 Landscape of the Year - Yarraville Project

Judging

Judges are primarily senior members of the Association, and we also engage independent industry experts. All of them volunteer their time to promote professionalism in the industry. They take the task of judging very seriously and enjoy providing constructive feedback to entrants. The judging is based on a project meeting the set criteria, which allows for the fact that every project is unique.

The criteria is not secret – you can download each judging criteria below, so you know exactly what the judges are looking for.

Mentoring

Senior Members of the Association with years of experience in both entering and judging are available as mentors to those entering the awards for the first time, or to previous entrants who would like further advice. Invest in yourself & your team

Smart businesses use the process of entering and having their projects judged as a measuring stick to see where your business sits against others and take on the judges in-depth feedback to continually improve. A commendation or a win will also reinforce to your staff that they are skilled at what they do, which is a great morale booster.

Promotion

Marketing your brand simply by entering provides a narrative to your clients that you are part of the industry, participating and celebrating excellence. Your project photos will feature in LV's social media posts, newsletters, magazine and website and should you take out a win, press releases often get picked up by external publications, providing winners with free PR that can have impact for years.

Awards

Landscape of the Year, Award of Excellence, Gold, Silver, Bronze and winners all receive a framed certificate acknowledging their achievements, a 2023 Award logo to use on your business collateral and website, and of course the Landscape of the Year, Award of Excellence and Gold winners also receives a custom trophy by LUMP Sculpture Studios.

The Awards Ceremony is a time that we all come together as one industry to recognise our successes and share in the joys of why we all do what we do.

Your project photos will feature in LV’s social media posts, newsletters, magazine and website and should you take out a win, press releases put out after the event often get picked up by external publications and newspapers, providing winners with free PR that can have an impact for years.

Each entry will be judged on design practices only, with no reference to construction or built works.

Feature in the Landscape

Who can apply: All LV Members, must hold a current paid membership.

Restrictions: The entrant MUST be the author of the design to enter, or the author/builder. Business or sub-contractor must hold RBP certification if the construction of the feature requires a Building Permit. A whole landscape is not eligible to be considered a ‘feature’. The feature must account for less than 50% of the overall landscape.

Restrictions: Nominee must hold an active apprentice as at the 2nd of July, 2024. Previous winners of this Award are not eligible to be nominated. Previous entrants who did NOT win are eligible for entry, pursuant to still being an active apprentice as at 2nd July 2024.

Landscape of the Year

The Landscape of the Year award is not a category you can nominate to enter into - your project must be entered into other categories and have taken out a win in the category, following an Award of Excellence in grouped category to be shortlisted by the judges for consideration for top spot Landscape of the Year. Further details on eligibility and recognition of parties involved in a Landscape of the Year project can be found in the Terms & Conditions.

Life Membership Nomination

Life Membership is bestowed by the Landscaping Victoria Board and recognises the outstanding individual contribution by a Landscaping Victoria member to Landscaping Victoria and the broader landscape industry.

To be granted Life Membership, the following criteria will be taken into account when assessing nominations:

a minimum of 10 years Landscaping Victoria active membership including consistent involvement in organisational initiatives, going beyond the ordinary for an extended period of time.
The nominee may have demonstrated a significant contribution to the running of Landscaping Victoria, having devoted their time, knowledge and abilities to the advancement of the landscape industry and Landscaping Victoria.

It is expected that the nominee will be truly outstanding.
