2024 Landscape of the Year
Winner: Jane Jones Landscapes, Portsea Project
A masterpiece of coastal elegance.
From the moment you enter this stunning property, the garden captivates you with its undulating terrain, expertly planted to withstand the demanding coastal elements.
Manicured and informal plantings are paired beautifully, creating a harmonious blend of form, texture, and colour that brings this coastal landscape to life.
Expansive lawns allow the garden to breathe, while natural stone pathways and a feature arbour add depth and structure, seamlessly integrating the garden into its natural surroundings.
In this design, the plants take centre stage, outshining the hardscape elements to become the true stars of the landscape. Jane Jones Landscapes has skilfully used shape and texture to create visual intrigue, with cloud-pruned tea trees showcasing their twisted, gnarly trunks and taming the harsh coastal conditions to soften the landscape.
The rear garden embraces the coastal environment, with wide stone steps and natural features that blend effortlessly into the adjacent national park. Structural elements such as Cupressus and ornamental grasses complement the lush, green-on-green palette, adding an elegant resilience to the design.
Judges praised the project’s perfect balance of form, function, and harmony with the rugged coastal environment, recognising it as a truly magnificent example of coastal garden design.
