Judge's Comments

"The Client had a long wish list and a very specific brief – for the garden to reflect the inner north industrial / café culture, and be a place for quiet contemplation for her yoga teaching, as well as a relaxed living space for family gatherings.

The design achieved this and more.  Materials of bluestone, brick and steel that speak to the area’s signature character were utilised and a spa and pool represented nearby Merri Creek.

Clever use of levels protected  the existing Claret Ash and created active and passive zones all over the site. Combined with a twist of the East in the planting, all the elements add up to a very versatile, functional and serene space that feels much bigger than its size – this is a garden to delight in."
